Mulberry Black Tea Leaves - A number of studies have shown Mulberry leaf can assist in managing high cholestorol and diabetes. Mulberry is rich in flavonoids, phenols, amino acids, organic acids, carotene, vitamins and essential trace elements which can improve and regulate the metabolism of skin tissue. Mulberry is linked to a compound called 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) and some of its derivatives, which are reported to inhibit the activity of a carbohydrate digesting enzyme called alpha-glucosidase. By slowing or stopping this enzyme, the digestion of starch and oligosaccharides is slowed, which suppresses blood glucose spikes after eating..
Bitter Buckwheat– Buckwheat contains a glucoside called rutin, a phytochemical that strengthens capillary walls. It also contains galloylated propelargonidins, procyanidins and D-chiro-inositol, a component of the secondary messenger pathway for insulin signal transduction found to be deficient in Type II diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome. It is being studied for use in treating Type II diabetes.Research on D-chiro-inositol and PCOS has shown promising results. See more information on Wikipedia.
